KATHERINE XIAO KEJIA

1963

Born in Beijing, China

Her parents were both educators and her grandfather, Xiao Lao, is a well-known calligrapher and poet in China

At the age of 9, she began studying calligraphy under the tutelage of her father

At the age of 13, her work was being exhibited throughout China and Japan and regularly presented to foreign governments and institutes as official gifts from the Chinese Government

1980

Admitted on a full scholarship to Whittier College, California

Exhibitions of her paintings were held in Tokyo and Nagano, Japan

1982

Gave a demonstration of her technique at the University of Arizona and was interviewed by the Los Angeles Times and CBS News

Also featured in a 25-minute film documentary on Chinese calligraphy shown at the International Symposium on Chinese Calligraphy at the New York Metropolitan Museum of Art

1985

Participated in a joint exhibition at the E&J Frankel Gallery, New York

1987

Solo exhibition at the American Center, Tokyo

Joint exhibition at the Narita International Culture Center, Japan

1991
